Rhode Island North-South Trail

Rhode Island Thru Hike

in Killingly, CT

Parking: Park along Pond Rd near Killingly Pond State Park

Trail Map      Trails: Less than a mile      Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

There is one section of the 78 mile Rhode Island North-South Trail (more about the trail here) that crosses into Connecticut.

Hiking

This section runs from Rt 101 along Riley Chase Rd to Pond Rd.  Here is passes Killingly Pond State Park before reaching the only section of real trail through shady hemlocks which provided good cover for deer flies and mosquitos, so I jogged most of the way.

This meets up with Quinns Hill Rd which is lined with No Trespassing and Do Not Enter signs, real friendly country.  The border with Rhode Island is noted by orange blazes on the trees.  Most other sources for the North-South Trail note that it is over blazed and nearly impossible to lose, so it’s got that going for it.

Aside from a half mile of “trail” this hike is all dirt roads passing residential houses, the one bright spot is the pond.  If you were to section hike the North-South trail this would be an easy section to skip.  Actually, in general, this is a skip.
