The Tower of No Bull Salvage is an art piece by American artist William Wiley. Wiley is known for a broad range of mediums much of which has been called ‘funk art’ and this tower certainly completes the mix. Forged by the Lippincott Foundry in nearby North Haven. The piece was completed in 1991.
The tower itself is bronze and stands 75ft tall with an eight-foot diameter. A spiral staircase inside leads to an observation platform at the top. Just below the platform, the tower is adorned with a devil facing north, and angel facing west, a snake to the south, and an eagle to the east. Approaching the tower passes large gates set on pink granite columns on to a ramp that curves around the base to reach the door entrance which now features a sign stating ‘Videoscan Alarm System You Are On Our Screen’
Wiley was friends with the manager of the Lippincott Foundry and when the manager asked if Wiley had any ideas for a really large piece, Wiley said, “a large tower you can go up into.”
Other features around the tower include a stone pyramid (that is reminiscent of Barnett Newman’s Broken Obelisk) and an industrial-sized excavator bucket.
