Boating

The Kings Island Boat Launch has also been known as the Parsons Boat Launch.  It has a long concrete ramp and a good sized parking area.  This Connecticut River boat launch is most popular during the shad season and is the easiest access for Kings Island who’s northern tip is only 1,500ft away.

There are a few posted regulations:

• (A) A 25 MPH nighttime speed limit from 1/2 hour after sunset until 1/2 hour before sunrise on all days of the year.
• (B) A 30 MPH limit from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset on Saturdays and Sundays from the Saturday preceding Memorial Day to the Sunday preceding Labor Day inclusive and on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
• (C) A 45 MPH limit, from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset, Monday through Friday, inclusive, during all seasons, and on Saturdays and Sundays from the Saturday following Labor Day to the Friday preceding Memorial Day.

The is a small picnic area and a bit of area to explore along the shore for fishing depending on water levels.

Note: I visited during a drought in September 2020 and had to walk through 100 feet of rocky shallow water past the end of the boat launch to get to floatable water.  My January 2024 visit had high rushing water.

Fishing

I’ve seen some positive reports for fishing along the Enfield side and in the deep water channel between the islands, but mostly smallmouth and small sized in general.  The launch is popular during shad season.

Hiking

At the corner of the parking lot is the Angelo Sferrazza Memorial Park with a half mile out and back trail along the river bank.  The trail is narrow, but well traveled. It get a bit grown in during the summer and a bit flooded in the spring, but there is a viewing bench about 0.25 miles in and near the turnaround is an ok view down the Connecticut River.

I thankfully didn’t have the same experience as Steve from CTMQ, but I can confirm that there is not a strong reason to seek this trail out.

History:

The land for the Angelo Sferrazza Memorial Park has been leased at the town of Enfield for $1/year since 1966 but the park wasn’t officially opened until its dedication in 2013.
