Another section of the Natchaug State Forest trailed entirely by the Nipmuck Trail. From the trail kiosk along Perry Hill Rd the trail heads uphill passing a long standing log book attached to a tree. I was through here most recently in June 2020 when completing my thru hike of the Nipmuck Trail though I’m fairly certain Steve from CTMQ and I left a note when we hiked this section in 2017.
This section is mildly hilly in open forest with at least one outstanding rock formation and several old woods roads. This section had undergone a timber harvest sometime around 2016 when I hiked a stretch of this to visit the Joshua’s Trust Whitman Lot, but has bounced back nicely in the ensuing years.
Due to the harvest the second half of this section has dense shrubbery making for narrow trail but certainly passable.
Next Section: 0.7 mile road walk along Oakes Rd to cross Rt. 89 into Nipmuck Trail: Pixie Falls
