Trail Map       Trails: 0.25 miles    Rating: ★★☆☆☆

I’ll admit before exploring Roseland Park and despite all my experience I was a bit confused about ‘private park’.  It’s just a regular park overseen by a board of Trustees.  This park offers a little bit of nearly everything including several extra touches you won’t see in ‘public parks’.

There is a playground, basketball court, amphitheater, group campground, pavilion, benches, boat launch, lake, rentable event barn, and public golf course (across the road).  On a nice fall afternoon there were people fishing from the pier, sitting along the waters edge, and strolling across the lawns.

Hours:
March 15 – November 30 Hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (or sunset whichever is earlier)
December 1 – March 14 Hours: 8 AM – Sunset

Hiking:

I meandered around the parks picnic areas, spots along the water, to the far end before making my way back and spotting a trail off the main driveway loop.  Though thick with leaves it was a definite trail up the high hill next to the driveway loop.  The trail climbed up, around, and over the summit (which had a mysterious old concrete platform).  Then it made its way down the other side to connect to the upper amphitheater and over to the Little League Fields and finally out of the woods near the kids pirate play feature.  The trail is definitely one of the least used features of the park and likely was only about 0.25 miles long.

Boating/Fishing:

The 90 acre Roseland Lake is fairly undeveloped. A gravel boat launch sits at the north end of the park.  There is a sign off the main one-way loop pointing in its direction.  For fishing there are a couple spots along the shore and a pier that stretches out into the water.

History:

Roseland Park first opened in 1876 when it was donated by the Bowen Family to the people of Woodstock and the surrounding towns.
