Hiking
From the rutted gravel parking area the paved trail heads down into a swampy area alongside the Farmington River and soon forks into a paved loop for easy walking. The left fork will take you down riverside with an option to head north and under Rt. 159 to the Windsor Boat Launch.
The right fork heads south and passes a handful of fitness trail stations like a balance beam and pull-up bars installed sometime around 2018. The loop joins next to another wide metal bridge over this wet area along the river. The trail continues to Mechanic Street next to a man-made pond.
There was some ice patches on the trail during my January 2023 visit and Steve from CTMQ faced a fair amount of standing water flooding the trails in summer 2019 so be prepared for wet trail most of the year and silty mud when it isn’t. Aside from that it is a nice short walk along the river that is popular in the area.
History:
I fairly certain the Town of Windsor purchased the property in August 1996.
