Morey Pond Boat Launch
Connecticut State Water Access
44 acres in Union, CT
Parking: Down the road near 723 Buckley Hwy Union, CT
Trail Map Trails: Less than a mile Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Morey Pond Boat Launch is a state operated water access area that technically falls within a parcel of the Nipmuck State Forest.
A long dirt road leads down to a small lot with a steep boat launch into Morey Pond. The pond is split by I-84 into the 15 acre north end and the 27 acre south end. I believe there is enough clearance in the culvert under the highway to slip into the southern portion but haven’t tried yet.
From the parking area there are a couple rough short paths in either direction on the water though easy to miss and contain not much of note.
History:
In the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) “built a caretaker’s cabin, bath houses and facilities for swimmers at Morey Pond” in Nipmuck State Forest. However, with the development of I-84 these no longer exist.
