Small waterfall in Mansfield, CT
Parking: Small pull-off near 99 Codfish Falls Rd Mansfield, CT
Trail Map Trails: Less than a mile Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Codfish Falls is great small waterfall on private land owned by a UCONN professor so give extra respect to the property. Joshua’s Trust has a conservation easement on the property, but doesn’t encourage visiting.
Located along Fishers Brook, the falls are about eight feet tall winding through a narrow ravine with smaller drops both above and below as the brook heads toward the Fenton River.
Aside from the very short access route, there is only a short access trail down to a view of the Fenton River.
History:
From Peter Marteka’s article,
“A man told his wife he was going out fishing,” Severson said, “but he was actually going out drinking with some buddies at the falls. On his way home, he stopped at the fish market and bought some cod. But everyone knows, even his wife, you can’t get cod out of a stream.”
