Trail Map Trails: 0.77 miles Rating: ★★☆☆☆
The Davison Memorial Walking Park has been rejuvenated again. I can remember my first overview of this area a few years ago, I knew there must be trails here, but I couldn’t find any information. It was soon forgotten until 2020 when I was planning a trip through East Haddam. Lo and behold, fresh information and a trail map.
Hiking
After parking in front of the trailhead kiosk (a great read) and passing a gate the trail heads gradually uphill on a wide path for about a 1/3 mile to the overlook. The overlook used to be completely clear when it was an observation area during WWII, but today the views are mainly southwest.
Just past the overlook is the official summit with a geodetic marker. Then the trail loops back around below the overlook along a ridge until returning to the wide path.
The namesake cave of the hill is located on Cave Hill Resort private property and there is no access from Davison Memorial Park without trespassing. Though several people have been granted access just by asking permission from the property owners including Peter Marteka.
History:
The property was donated to the Town of East Haddam in 1977 by Edith Carroll Davison.
