Trail Map Trails: 3 miles Rating: ★★★☆☆
I made a quick stop to Bluff Head in 2014 after exploring Guilford. So my recollection here is a bit hazy, but from the main parking lot, the trail heads quickly uphill on the Mattabesett Trail to the beautiful traprock ridge overlook above Meyerhuber Pond. This is the highest point in Guilford and mainly has views towards the northeast.
I headed off the ridge into the woods to find a confusing network of trails that were poorly blazed. Of course, I didn’t have a trail map at the time and I’m sure lots of work has been done to improve the area in the ensuing years.
Heading north: 0.5 mile road walk to Pistapaug Mountain
Heading south: Broomstick Ledges
History:
From the land trust site,
“The land trust began buying land at Bluff Head in the 1960s. Today, it owns more than 700 acres there, including most of the area around the sheer, 500-foot traprock cliff as well as the adjoining areas of Totoket Mountain
