Hiking

Certainly not hiking, but a nice walking trail past the gate at the left corner of the parking area.  The path is crushed stone that follows the curves of the river past old fields looping around and coming back to the start.  You get one nice view of the river but mostly its just a simple relaxing stroll.

Boating:

The boat launch is clearly labeled with a large sign just past the main parking area.

This section of the Quinebaug River is dotted with small islands and sandbars so it can actually be a bit tough to find the main flow of the river.  It isn’t recommended to paddle downstream from this boat as there is a dangerous dam 0.4 miles away just past Route 6.

You can paddle 4.4 miles upstream to the Rogers Dam for a long paddle.

History:

The sports complex is named for Maurice Francis Bowen who passed away in 2011.
