Sherwood Island State Park in one of Connecticut’s popular state park beaches joining Hammonasset, Silver Sands, and Rocky Neck.
Hiking
There isn’t much for trails to explore here, but the park is still popular for casual strolls either on the beach in the off season or along the beach walkway (packed sand). There is a short wooded loop off west beach and mowed ‘Nature Trail’ off East Beach. Neither are particularly interesting but provide some differentiation.
Swimming
Check the Beach Status Report to make sure the beach is open. Between East and West beaches there are nearly a mile of wide beach that is incredibly popular in the summer.
Disc Golf
Long, safari style course. Beautiful views of the Long Island Sound. Very open, mostly flat, with strategically placed trees on each hole. Be sure to print out the most up-to-date course map, it is needed here.
History:
Established as a state park in 1932.
