Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy

The Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy is one of Connecticut’s newest land trusts, officially forming on April 10th, 2023 from a merger of the former East Granby, Wintonbury, and West Hartford Land Trusts. In October 2024, Traprock expanded again to include the Windsor Land Trust.

History

West Hartford Land Trust was established in 2002 and had seven parcels for at least 19.5 acres as of 2021.  The East Granby Land Trust was incorporated in 1974 and grew to be one of the largest landowners in town with 322.2 acres across 16 properties.  The Wintonbury Land Trust was founded in 1982 and has about 17 properties for roughly 295 acres.  The three land trusts began working towards a merger sometime in 2020 and after member votes approved the merger in March of 2023.
