Rose Farm Preserve is a short nice triple loop hike joined by a boardwalk over a marshy brook.
I started my hike from the east side of Route 82 though you could also start from the west side from shoulder parking along the unpaved Silas Holmes Road.
Either side of the parking area heads off down the 0.4 mile yellow trail down wide but slightly eroded trail. I immediately jumped off onto the white trail following it along the bank of the marsh until reaching the 0.1 mile boardwalk over Hemlock Valley Brook. There are nice views up and downstream.
Across the brook the trail forks again into the 0.8 miles red loop. This passes through hemlock forest on the low end of the loop and by the Berlin Fish and Game Club on the high side.
The 68 acre Rose Farm property was acquired in 2009 by the Town of East Haddam to protect both sides of 1,500 feet of Hemlock Valley Brook and the associated wetlands that bisect the property.
