Quinebaug Trail

Hike the Quinebaug Trail

The blue blaze Quinebaug Trail runs 8.1 miles from Plainfield southwest to Griswold passing quiet forest, dirt bike trails, rocky ledges, and mill ruins along the way.

The trail is one of the lesser traveled of the blue blaze system and overlaps significantly with the Enduro Trail that runs through Pachaug State Forest so you will likely pass at least a couple dirt bikes or ATVs

I hiked the length of the trail in January 2023.

• Parking off Rt. 14A
• North Terminus – 3.58 miles – Starts next to an abandoned house and winds through quiet forest past Locke’s Meadow Pond and flooded trails
• Parking off Flat Rock Rd
• Parking on Hell Hollow Rd
• Hell Hollow – 3 miles – Overlaps significantly with the dirt bike trails, but a couple quiet stretches along streams
• Parking at Phillips Pond Rd
• Phillips Pond – 1.1 miles – Picnic and fishing area
• Castle Trail – 0.5 miles – Mill ruins before the trail climbs a small hill and to
• Ends at the Nehantic Trail (closest parking is at Hopeville Pond State Park)

History

This trail was originally blazed sometime in the mid to late 1960s and has largely remained unchanged over that time.
