Pomfret Recreation Park

Pomfret Town Park

107 acres in Pomfret, CT

Parking: Large lots up the driveway at 576 Hampton Rd, Pomfret Center, CT

Trail Map         Trails: 1 mile         Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Note: This park is open 8am to 8:15pm when the gate at the entrance is locked and is closed from December to March each year.  It is a standard town park with ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a pavilion.  Most were in use on my summer 2022 visit.

Disc Golf

If you aren’t here to use one of the above, there’s a good chance you’re here to play the 9 hole disc golf course.

From the lower parking area the course starts off just a bit into the woods and over to the right.  The course is short and very beginner friendly.  Holes range from 97 to 220ft and you can see the basket on all but two.  The tee boxes are pretty rough with loose stone but serviceable for the shot shapes and distances.

Baskets are numbered, but not the tees. I found it very straightforward except from 7 to 8 where you need to take a hard right from the basket instead of continuing straight (where you’ll end up at 9s teepad).

Hiking/Mountain Biking

It Quiet Corner NEMBA has putting in some work on the trails just in the past year (2021-2022).  The hand drawn map from 2006 is still roughly accurate but a good amount of flowing singletrack has been added weaving through the disc golf course.  Across the Air Line Trail is the ‘Pomfret Forest’ for another slightly larger network of trails.

I never find mountain bike trails enjoyable for hiking, but there is a pretty easy connection down to the Air Line Trail for relatively easy walking in either direction.
