Short lollipop loop down a long driveway to a rocky knob overlook of a beaver pond.
From the small parking area the trail starts behind a gate down what must be a long former driveway. Typical for Lyme there are rocky hills on either side.
After 0.3 miles you reach a rocky opening with the trail kiosk and a looping orange trail. I headed right and jumped onto the 0.25 mile yellow trail among the trees. The trail is narrow and makes good use wandering rocky woods. It rejoins the orange loop near the beaver pond edge with private property just across the water.
A purple trail climbs steeply back up the rocky knob with a bench with great winter views down to the pond. You could also continue on the orange loop for a more gradual roundabout climb. Once at the top you're two skips from the kiosk and the return to your car.
The property was preserved by the Lyme Land Trust in 2018 and named for Jim and Margaret Thach, strong advocates for open space in Lyme.
