Lawrence Park
42.84 acres in South Windsor, CT
Parking: Medium lot near 65 Lawrence Rd, South Windsor, CT
Trail Map Trails: 0.9 miles Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Located on Lawrence Road in the northeast corner of town, has been taken over by disc golf. While the park is billed as a ‘work in progress’ and offers ‘walking & hiking a 1+ mile trail system, bird-watching, and fishing’ most visitors to the park will now be disc golf players.
The town has invested a lot in clearing the park. Half the wooded areas marked on the map are now open fields and maybe a third of the trails still exist. But, the investment in disc golf appears to be paying off, on my Monday early afternoon visit the parking lot was full and there were about a dozen groups playing on the course.
While technically only 9 holes, creative use of tee pads and baskets allows for a full 18 holes. It’s a great beginner course though signage was still in the works as of November 2024. UDisc was very helpful in navigating which tee pad and which basket you were supposed to be throwing at. There are a few holes that are pretty tight so when it was busy, some throws get a little close for comfort.
Future plans for the park include a playground, fishing dock, small open spaces, and a picnic grove.
History:
This park consists of two parcels acquired in 1994 and 1998.
