A relatively short figure eight loop hike with amazing rock features, though it was incredibly buggy on my recent visit.
The trail starts from a small parking area down a private driveway though far enough away from the house to not be intrusive. You immediately pass a 35 ft rock face and bend around it's corner to climb atop a ridge where the trail splits into the first section of the figure eight. I chose to head left at the fork around another rocky knob with a view west over private property.
The trail then descends into a gully connecting to the second loop of the figure eight. This too climbs up and around another rocky knob and descends around another massive rock wall complete with small overhangs and nooks. There were also obstructed views of the marsh along this stretch of the Black Hall River.
I hiked a few properties in Old Lyme the day of my last visit and this was actually my favorite trail of the day but unfortunately the bugs (deer flies?) were swarming 8-10 at a time which rushed the hike and didn't leave much time to enjoy the mossy rock views.
