Hayward Reserve
103 acres in East Haddam, CT
Parking: Small pull-off near 64 Oconnell Road Extension, Colchester, CT
Trail Map Trails: 1.6 miles Rating: ★★☆☆☆
The Hayward Reserve is a pleasant loop trail over lightly rolling terrain and despite its newness appears to be pretty well established.
Hiking
Taking the red trail downhill from the parking area through young forest you’ll soon reach the blue loop. I hiked the blue loop counter clockwise. There isn’t much of note along the trail and yet it’s quite nice with trees and rocks and ferns and moss. The loop is only just over a mile so its an easy 30 minute walk. It’s a shame I don’t have more to say because I really enjoyed this simple trail through the forest.
History:
The property was acquired by the Town of East Haddam in 2021. Trails were built as part of an Eagle Scout project by Ben Price.
