Grace K. Salmon Park

The town has owned the land for Salmon Park since 1928 and is named for Grace King Salmon who lived with her husband across the Saugatuck River from the current park's location in the early 1900s.  She was a founding member of the Westport Women's Club and he was a state comptroller and president of the Westport Bank & Trust. After her death in 1939 she left a trust in her name to benefit the town.

In the late 1970's the Westport Garden Club helped to develop the area into a park thanks to Virginia Sherwood then Westport Garden Club's chairman. It became Connecticut’s first park built on a former landfill.

The land for the William P. Teuscher Wetlands Preserve was purchased by the town in 1985 due to William's generosity dedicated in his honor in 1995. Trails on the property were re-cleared in 2013 by Patrick Overton for his Eagle Scout project.
