Golet Farm Preserve

Trail Map Trails: 1 mile Rating: ★★☆☆☆
The Golet Farm Preserve is a small property with a double loop hiking trail. The parking area feels like pulling into someone’s yard, but is nicely separated from the next door house.
Hiking
The trail starts through a well maintained meadow with select patches left for native grasses and flowers. You can either head straight to catch the red loop or right to access the blue loop. I chose to head right down into the woods taking the wide former farm road down to what must former farm fields. Aside from one narrow turn the blue loop feels more like a dirt racetrack than a hiking path carving around and through open fields.
Back on the red loop the trail navigates the property’s marshy areas up onto an esker to return to the parking area.
History:
Preserved in July 2015. Golet Farm was run from 1920-1955 by Charles Golet as a family farm supplying the Moodus community with milk, cream, and butter from a 32-head herd of milking cows; with chickens and eggs; and with fruit from a small orchard. Over the years, parcels of the original farm were split off for family home sites.
