The Franklin Street Trail is a spur of the Hockanum River Trail separate from the main line but really only the other side of the river from the Windmere Ave section.

Hiking

This is a simple short out and back hike. I started from the small pull-off on Franklin Road, though you could pull into the back of the Maple Grove Club and start from there. The trail winds through the forest on root covered trail with the river, which presents as a marsh, off to your left. It climbs a small hill to a trio of benches with a view through the trees out over the river/marsh. The trail then descends along the edge to reach the back of Windmere Village to meet a crushed stone path.  I wasn’t willing to explore further though so I turned around the retraced my steps taking the shorter inner trail (marked in green above) and back to the car all taking less than 15 minutes.
