Trail Map          Trails: 1 mile        Rating: ★★☆☆☆

The Honey Hill Preserve is a simple woods loop for a short pleasant hike.  While the property does have a corner atop Honey Hill you don’t traverse it by trail.

From the small pull-off on Clark Road the trail heads off into the woods and immediately forks into the loop. I chose to hike clockwise taking the left fork over the bridge over Babbling Brook built as an Eagle Scout project by Luke Grabowski in 2014. Climbing the hillside the trail is rocky and I assume feels pretty narrow as everything grows in.

The trail map notes glacial debris and there is a fair amount of the loose angular stone common to this area, many of which are used in the stone walls on the property.  Along this backside of the loop there is visible private property up the hill though I also assume that is blocked more when things are grown in.

The trail climbs another small hill and then returns to the parking area by rock hopping two feeder streams and Babbling Brook once more.

History:

Honey Hill Preserve was one of the first properties acquired by the Lyme Land Trust. The first gift of land was a tract of 28.74 acres donated by The Nature Conservancy in 1978. The second was a gift of 9.32 acres from Robert Klimek and includes a right-of-way to Rte. 82.
