West Trails

  • The trailhead for the western portion of Holcomb Farm are through the barn when you pull into the main driveway.  Through the barn and down the hill you will cross a small creek and through a gated farm field that must be kept closed to prevent deer damaging crops.  On the other side of the field you descend to the west branch of Salmon Brook where there should be a bridge to take you to up to the ridge and lookout trails.  Unfortunately in 2021, flooding from Hurricane Ida swept it away and as of Spring 2023 it has not been replaced.  You can still hike upstream on unblazed trails and downstream on the red blazed Brook Loop for a nice short hike along the water. There is a tree fallen across the brook which could be crossed for the more adventurous
  • As noted above you could also access the trails from Broad Hill Road

History:

Farmed by the Holcomb Family for more than 200 years until 1976 when it was gifted to the University of Connecticut.  UCONN used it as part of its College of Agriculture and Natural Resources until 1990 when it was transferred to the Town of Granby.  It now operates as a non-profit.  In 2022, in exchange for a $500,000 investment in the Holcomb Farm Stewardship Fund, the Granby Land Trust has officially permanently protected 277 acres of the farm.
