Connects into the Scantic River East Scitico section south of the river off Bailey Road.
From the parking area Maple Street, the trail starts at the lower end of the field closer to the river. The trail is simple, roughly following the river sometimes right along the bank sometimes through thickets off the water. There is an industrial park off to the left, but even in winter I didn't give it much notice. There are also the remains of an old bridge across the river complete with busted chain link gates that once connected over to the old mill area.
The trail is only about 0.5 miles on town property though it's about an even mile to the Scantic River State Park Bailey Road entrance. The closer you get to the state park the farther away from the river you get traveling through a marshy floodplain. Continue over to Scantic River State Park - Scitico (“Scantic River East”) South of the River for a description of the ruins you can find in that section.
Maintenance has been good on my two visits though I've heard reports of sections being impassable in the early thickets between rounds of cleanup.
